What is Microblading?

Microblading is a form of permanent makeup where a small blade is used to create thin, hair-like strokes by depositing pigment into the top layer of the skin, giving the illusion of a full, natural brow. It is a semi-permanent procedure, with results lasting anywhere from 1-3 years.

Microblading is meant to be a natural enhancement, and to create the appearance of full, beautiful brows. It looks most natural on clients who have existing brow hair, and are wanting to perfect their shape and add natural fullness. The more hair you have, the more undetectable it is.  This procedure is ideal for those who prefer a super natural look. If you are hoping to ditch the brow makeup entirely and fill your brows in daily, you are better suited for a combination or ombre brow.

Microblading heals best on young, normal/dry skin. Those with combination/oily or aging are not the ideal candidates for microblading, and may be better suited for a combination or ombre brows.

What are Combo Brows?

A Combo Brow combines microblading strokes with machine shading. Like microblading, results typically last 1-3 years depending on your skin type.

If you have naturally sparse brow hair or uneven brow growth, a combination brow is perfect for you! Soft shading blends out any unevenness in your natural growth and can give a more 3D result. It is also ideal for those looking for a more defined or filled-in brow. We can add as much or as little shading to give a variety of different looks!

This is a beautiful look for all skin types (including oily/aging skin). If you are unsure of what service to book, a combination brow is the safest choice!

What are Ombre/Powder Brows?

Unlike Microblading or a Combination Brow, an Ombre Brow (also known as a powder brow) has no hair strokes and is made up entirely of machine shading. It is ideal for all skin types.

Like the other brow styles, an ombre brow is semi-permanent and will fade over time. However, this style typically lasts the longest, creates the least amount of trauma, and fades more evenly over time!

Ombre brows may look intense at first, but the results heal to a soft, powdery finish. If you fill in your brows every day and want the least amount of maintenance, book your ombre brow appointment today!

How long will it last?

Cosmetic Tattooing is considered a semi-permanent service. Results will vary from client to client, however most find their color can retain anywhere from 1.5-5 years. While many things contribute to how your results last, here are some factors that are GUARANTEED to cause your semi-permanent tattoo to fade quickly:

  • Oily skin

  • Retinol or Vitamin C

  • Iron deficiency

  • Sun exposure

  • Exfoliants

  • Exposure to salt water

You are not a candidate for the above services if you…

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding

  • Are under 18

  • Have HIV or Hepatitis or any other infectious or viral diseases

  • Currently using or have been on Accutane within the last 12 months

  • Have a freshly tanned/sunburned face

  • Diagnosed Rosacea

  • Have trouble healing / are prone to develop infections easily

  • Are routinely taking blood thinning medications

  • Are currently undergoing treatment for cancer

  • Chemotherapy or Radiation treatment within last 12 months

  • Have epilepsy

Does it hurt?

A topical 5% lidocaine is used to keep you comfortable throughout your procedure, however pain tolerance varies from client to client. Having the procedure during your menstrual cycle can increase sensitivity in some cases.

How to prepare:

  • If you have reference or inspiration pictures, please feel free to being them to your procedure along with a pencil, powder or product you’re currently using.

  • It is recommended you come to your appointment with your brows grown out, no need to have them cleaned up before! We prefer to see how they’ll grow naturally, and will clean them up for you at your appointment. If you need to clean them up beforehand, please do so at least 2 weeks before your appointment. If you routinely tint your brows, you will need to do so at least 72 hrs before your appointment.

  • No Retinol/Retin A, Botox, filler, laser or any other corrective skin services around the area we will be treating. This applies for two weeks prior to your procedure, and also two weeks after.

  • As long as permitted by your doctor, avoid taking any medication that will thin the blood 48 hours prior to your appointment( I.E. asprin, ibuprofen, fish oil).

  • DO NOT drink alcohol or caffeine within 24 hours of your appointment. Doing so increases blood flow and can negatively affect your healed results.

  • Aside from daily cleansing, you MUST avoid water on your brows for 7-10 days as you heal! THIS INCLUDES ANY SWEATING, POOLS, LAKES, SALT WATER, AND SUN EXPOSURE, ETC. SO PLEASE PLAN ACCORDINGLY.

Can I bring a friend?

INK&GLO is an intimate studio space designed for a 1:1 experience. To ensure the best results and everyone’s safety, additional friends or family are discouraged. As we are considered a “body art establishment”, no one under 18 will be permitted.

What is the difference between these services and old-school permanent makeup?

As techniques and technology have evolved, the cosmetic tattoo industry has progressed from what it was by leaps and bounds, even just within the last 5 years. At INK&GLO, only the highest quality products, tools, techniques and equipment are used to ensure the most realistic and natural results. As these are considered “semi-permanent” tattoos, we are only hitting the very top layer of the skin. Because of this, the color will simply fade into the skin over time, rather than turning an off-color or migrating, as with old-school PMU. Because this tattoo is so superficial in the skin, you won’t need to commit to this brow shape or lip color for life!
